Walking Towards Better Health
LTCAS and Paths for All are working in partnership on a project ‘Walking Towards Better Health’, which aims to raise awareness of the benefits of walking and to encourage those living with long term conditions to engage in walking for better health.
Target Group: The project is seeking to engage with LTCAS members working with those living with long term conditions, with a focus on women over the age of 45 and men and women over the age of 65.
The aims of this project are:
- To create a toolkit that will encourage the target group to become involved in walking to improve their health and better manage their condition.
- To promote the physical, mental and social benefits of walking among the target group and across relevant sectors in Scotland.
- To support groups and individuals who wish to establish health walks and work with these groups to increase physical activity levels.
The opinions and ideas of the LTCAS members and those living with long term conditions are central to this project and will be used to shape the outcomes. Therefore, we want to hear from LTCAS members and who may be interested in this project and those living with long term conditions who engage in walk, but also from those who, for whatever reason, do very little or no walking.
If you are living with a long term condition and would like help with this project, we have a short questionnaire exploring why people do or don’t walk, how walking impacts on their condition and the factors that would encourage people to walk more. This survey is available online: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/walkingtowardsbetterhealth
, however if you would prefer a hardcopy of this questionnaire please contact Hazel.Robinson@ltcas.org.uk or call 0141 404 0231.
Alternatively, if you are working with the target group, and/or a member of the Long Term Condition Alliance, please contact Hazel Robinson (hazel.robinson@ltcas.org.uk) the Walking Development Officer for more information and/or to discuss any potential interests/links with this project.
