 Projects

LTCAS works on a range of projects that contribute to our aim of improving the lives of people living with long term conditions.

Find out more about:

Encouraging Public Involvement in the Scottish Medicines Consortium

LTCAS is working with The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) to encourage greater public involvement in its decision making process.

The project is led by our SMC Public Involvement Officer Linda McGlynn (linda.mcglynn@ltcas.org.uk) whose role is to:

  • Increase awareness of the SMC and its role among patient interest and support groups
  • Work to reduce perceived barriers to public and patient involvement with SMC
  • Provide support to organisations patient interest and support groups making submissions to SMC
  • Increase the quantity and quality of patient interest and support groups’ submissions to SMC

The project will provide opportunities for organisations to affect the advice issued by the SMC and should ultimately help result in better outcomes for people living with long term conditions, unpaid carers and their families.

Big Lottery Proposal – Development of Financial Advice Services for People with Long Term Conditions

Our manifesto commits LTCAS to supporting and taking action to reduce poverty amongst people with long term conditions.  We know that people with long term conditions are more likely to be in debt, be on low incomes, or otherwise struggling financially.  We also know the importance of welfare rights, money, debt, housing and employment advice in tackling these issues.

Over the last few years Macmillan Cancer Care has funded a number of successful advice projects across Scotland that have targeted people affected by cancer.  In some areas, this work has been expanded to target people with long term conditions. Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland have been a major contributor to similar or linked work in Glasgow and Lanarkshire, and other members will also be working in this field.

LTCAS is working with four Citizens Advice Bureaux already supported by Macmillan (Dumfries and Galloway, Grampian, Highland and Lanarkshire), Macmillan Cancer Support, Citizens Advice Scotland and several other LTCAS members to seek Big Lottery Funding to develop current services to people with a range long term conditions.
