In March 2011, LTCAS held a major national conference to consider the possible impact – good and bad – of public service reform on people with long term conditions. Dr Campbell Christie (Chair of the Christie Commission) addressed the event and listened to the views and experiences of LTCAS members. Please read the conference report ‘Public Service Reform and Long Term Conditions, Working with people; building communities’.
The Scottish Government set up the Christie Commission to develop recommendations for the future delivery of public services in the context of falling funds and rising need.
Please read LTCAS’ evidence to the Christie Commission submitted in January 2011 and the Commission's report on the Future Delivery of Public Services published in June 2011.
The Scottish Government has since adopted the vision and recommendations of the report. In Septmember 2011 the Scottish Government published its response to the Christie Commission which endorsed the outcomes of the Christie Commission and signalled an approach to public service reform which closely reflects the key themes and aims of the Commission's report. For details please read LTCAS' briefing on the Scottish Spending Review 2011 and Draft Budget 2012-13 and the Scottish Government's Response to the Christie Commission.
