Manifesto

Text Size: A A A

There are an estimated two million people living with long term conditions in Scotland – that’s more than the number who voted in the 2003 Scottish Parliament elections.

A key reason organisations came together to form LTCAS was to have a stronger voice in campaigning.

Over the past two years we have used that voice to keep long term conditions high on the agenda and to drive policy on self management. However, we know that a wide range of issues - not just those relating to health or the NHS- affect the lives of people with long term conditions.

In 2007, we produced a manifesto. During the second part of 2009 we began work on a new LTCAS manifesto and we have worked with members to develop this. LTCAS members, associates and the wider network were asked to give their views on priority issues. These views were gathered through a variety of focus groups and an online survey. A draft manifesto was produced and circulated to our members for comments.

The manifest is intended to:

  • Highlight what needs to happen across all areas of policy to improve the lives of people living with long term conditions

  • Communicate key messages shared by LTCAS and its members

  • Influence the manifestos of the political parties (for the 2011 Scottish Parliament election)
  • Provide a tool for LTCAS and members to use in campaigning activities.
