Personal Stories

Text Size: A A A

LTCAS believes in the power of personal stories from people living with long term conditions. We are gathering people's stories so we can present these in a range of formats.

This project will bring LTCAS' messages to life, give human faces and voices to our work, create a tool that can be used by members in their own work and enable people with long term conditions to hear each other's experiences.

As part of our work to gather evidence of children and young people's experiences leading up to to the 'Seen and not Heard?' Conference in November 2009, LTCAS made three personal stories with the support of our members, to illustrate the issues facing children and young people with long term conditions.

Gemma (age 16) who is a member of the RNIB Haggeye Youth Forum, talks about her experiences of having a visual impairment at primary and secondary school.

Andrew (age 18) who lives with neurofibromatosis and receives support from Confer, talks about his experiences of the transitions between secondary school and college for young people with additional needs.

Shazia, a member of Diabetes UK who lives with type 1 Diabetes and has experienced severe depression, talks about growing up with a long term condition and how this affected her mental health.
