Nursing and Midwifery Council consultation on guidance for fitness to practise panels
Practice committee panels hold hearings to decide whether a nurse or midwife's fitness to practise is impaired. If a panel decides that fitness to practise is impaired it can impose a sanction on the nurse or midwife. Indicative Sanctions Guidance (ISG) is available to assist panels with making a decision about which sanction to impose. The NMC also have a conditions of practice library, which contains sample conditions that panels may adopt when making conditions of practice orders.
The NMC are proposing to revise the ISG and the conditions of practice library to reflect changes in the law and lessons learned from past experience. They are also proposing to introduce guidance for panels considering making conditions of practice orders.
