Meet the Scottish Political Party Leaders Events

Now that UK election fever is over LTCAS is turning its attention to next year's Scottish Parliament elections. We recently published our new Manifesto for People Living with Long Term Conditions. As the political parties develop their manifestos we want to make sure politicians from across parties understand the issues that affect people who live with long term conditions.

We have invited each of the Scottish Party Leaders to meet with LTCAS, our members/associates and people living with long term conditions. This series of events will be a chance for you, and the people you represent, to speak directly to the politicians about the issues that matter most.

Members' Networking Event

Tuesday 25 May

Showcase of projects funded by the Self Management Fund

at the LTCAS Hub in Glasgow

LTCAS hosted a successful Self Management networking day at the LTCAS Hub on 25 May. This event showcased 15 of the 56 projects funded through the Self Management Fund.

70 delegates attended the day and had the opportunity to network, visit information stands to hear more about projects and attend workshops run by the funded projects.

The day started with a networking lunch. This was followed by presentations from People First and the Thistle Foundation. Attendees then took part in interactive workshops run by Parkinson’s UK Scotland, Asthma UK, SAMH and Drumchapel Disabled Action2. These workshops gave delegates a real sense of the work being done and the impact these projects have on self management.

Some comments from delegates included:

“Positive opportunities to engage with other organisations”.

“Very interesting and useful. Will take back info to project workers”.

“I had an informative and enjoyable time. I’m glad I used a half day annual leave to come. I feel very passionate towards the aims of LTCAS”.

The next networking event will be on Thursday 26 August from 10.30am-1pm.

LTCAS Annual Conference and AGM

'View from the centre: How can we achieve person-centredness for people with long term conditions?'

The first Long Term Conditions Alliance Scotland annual conference took place on 23 February at Perth Concert Hall. 200 delegates representing over 100 different organisations, drawn from LTCAS member and associate organisations, government, NHS, private healthcare, councils and voluntary organisations met to explore the question ‘How we can achieve person centredness for people with long term conditions?'

Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing opened the conference. Her address highlighted much of the work LTCAS has been involved in over the past year, and gave a great overview of the work being done in the voluntary and public sector. Read the Deputy First Minister's speech here.

Exploring issues facing children and young people living with Long Term Conditions

This was a very successful event which took place on Tuesday 10 November at Edinburgh City Chambers. It was attended by around 100 representatives from the voluntary sector, health, education and government.
